MITIGATING SPAM IN TM NETWORK

Our valued customers,

Further to our announcement on - MITIGATING SPAM IN TM NETWORK, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) wishes to inform you that we will continue to block OUTBOUND Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) traffic or port 25 for all outgoing e-mails from dynamic IP addresses. We wish to highlight that this initiative is crucial in combating spam in our Internet Protocol (IP) network as well as to improve our quality of service.

Recently, TM implemented port 25 blocking at the Northern and Southern Region in phases beginning February 11, 2008.

TM will continue with the implementation of this exercise at the Eastern Region (Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan), today, followed by Sabah and Sarawak from 30 July 2008 onwards.

We wish to inform you that during this exercise, only outbound SMTP traffic from smtp.streamyx.com and smtp.tm.net.my will be permitted. With this exercise, Streamyx customers with dynamic IP addresses, who have their own mail server will not be able to send out-going e-mails.

As an alternative, TM will be providing customers with two options;.

* Customers may choose to relay their mail server to our SMTP or
* Use port 587 for any outgoing e-mails. Kindly refer to the following links for configuration details:

How to configure port 587 for mail server — Customers may need to refer to their administrator or hosting service provider to support and turn on port 587 for their mail server.

Kindly be assured that TM is proactively taking all possible measures to ensure that these spamming activities do not recur in the future.

1. This message is addressed to all JARING Customers who are assessing Internet through Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ IP network.

2. TM had announced that effective 15th Jan 2008, SMTP port 25 will be blocked and only SMTP port 587 is allowed for all outgoing email traffic through TM's IP network. JARING Customers who are using smtp.jaring.my port 25 through TM's network will be affected with this changes.

3. Kindly use one of the following solutions to cater to the changes and to avoid problem in sending emails especially when you are on TM's network:

Solution 1 :
Maintain SMTP server as smtp.jaring.my but change SMTP Port 25
to Port 587. Please refer to the following link on how to change your

Solution 2 :
Change SMTP server to the open-relay SMTP server provided by TM
